The Importance of Talking to Children About Assault
Hello beautiful people, I hope you guys are doing well today. I just thought I should share something very important that I heard from Sop Dada, because I feel we donât talk about these things enough. You know, itâs crucial to address these issues openly and honestly.
The Story of Sop Dada
I was watching a podcast by Rel, who you can check out on YouTube by searching for Maja. In the podcast, Rel was interviewing Sop Dada, who shared a very important and personal story from her childhood.
When Sop Dada was eight years old, she lived with her biological sister and her sisterâs husband. Her sister was older and had her own house, and everything seemed fine. However, every night, the husband would kiss Sop Dada on the lips as a goodnight gesture.
This escalated to the point where the husband started shoving his tongue inside Sop Dadaâs mouth, making her feel very uncomfortable. Despite her discomfort, Sop Dada didnât tell her sister. Instead, she called her mother and father to say that she wanted to move out.
The Role of Sop Dadaâs Grandmother
Before Sop Dada moved in with her sister and her husband, her grandmother had always told her that if somebody touched her or kissed her inappropriately, it was wrong and she should tell her parents immediately.
This advice gave Sop Dada the courage to speak up and move out before things got worse.
Her grandmother was very protective and would set boundaries even in church. If a pastor or anyone else tried to kiss Sop Dada, her grandmother would immediately intervene and say, âDo not touch or kiss my child.â
This strong stance helped Sop Dada understand the importance of speaking up when something felt wrong.
The Importance of Talking to Your Children
Sop Dadaâs story highlights the critical importance of talking to your children about assault and inappropriate behavior. Itâs essential to educate your children about what is right and wrong, even if you think they are too young to understand.
You donât have to go into graphic details; you can simply tell them that if anybody touches them inappropriately or kisses them in a way that makes them uncomfortable, they should run to you and tell you what happened.
Creating a safe space for your child to talk about these things can prevent potential harm and give your child the confidence to speak up if something is wrong.
Itâs much better to have these conversations early on rather than waiting until something happens and your child tells you about it when they are older. By then, the damage may be much more severe.
Conclusion
Sop Dadaâs story is a powerful reminder of the importance of educating our children about inappropriate behavior and assault.
By setting clear boundaries and encouraging open communication, we can create a safer environment for our children. Letâs not wait until itâs too late to have these important conversations.
Please share your thoughts on this matter in the comments below. I would love to hear your opinions and experiences. Thank you for reading, and I will definitely see you on the next one.
