Tragєdy Strikєs Maпєпbєrg as Prєgпaпt Womaп is Fatally Stabbєd
The community of Manenberg was left devastated on Sunday morning after the shocking murder of 32-year-old Amirah Abrahams, a pregnant mother of two.
The brutal stabbing, allegedly carried out by her boyfriend, has left residents and family members reeling in disbelief.
A Community in Mourning
Tears flowed as horrified neighbors gathered outside the crime scene on Manenberg Avenue. Police were called to the residence after neighbors heard Abrahams’ chilling screams.
Her lifeless body was later discovered on the bed, bearing multiple stab wounds.
According to a close relative who wished to remain anonymous, Abrahams, who was six months pregnant, had been anticipating the arrival of her third child—a baby boy—in the new year.
“She had two children already and was eagerly preparing for her new son,” the relative said. “We are utterly heartbroken. On Sunday, neighbors alerted us after hearing her cries. By the time police arrived, it was too late.”
Signs of Previous Violence
The family revealed that Abrahams had sought refuge at their home earlier in the week following an alleged attack by her boyfriend. “She spent the night with us on Wednesday because she said he had hurt her.
We didn’t know the full extent of the situation or if she had been abused before. Amirah was a kind-hearted person, and her loss has left a void in all our lives.”
Police Investigation and Arrest
Manenberg police station commander, Brigadier Jayce Naidoo, confirmed the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect, believed to be Abrahams’ boyfriend. “At approximately 6:30 am, officers responded to reports of screams at a home on Manenberg Avenue,” Naidoo said.
“The victim’s body was found with multiple stab wounds to her upper body. The suspect initially fled the scene but later returned and was apprehended. He is now in custody and facing a murder charge.”A Growing Concern Over GBV
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the pressing issue of gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa. The murder of Abrahams has sparked outrage and calls for justice. Activists and community leaders are urging stronger measures to protect women and children from abuse.
Remembering Amirah Abrahams
Abrahams’ family and friends described her as a loving and caring individual who adored her children. “She was always smiling and had a way of brightening up any room. We cannot fathom how this could happen,” the family member added.
As the investigation unfolds, the Manenberg community is rallying together to support Abrahams’ grieving family. A memorial service is being planned to honor her life and raise awareness about the dangers of domestic violence.
A Call for Change
The tragic death of Amirah Abrahams serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing battle against GBV in South Africa. Communities are being urged to speak out and support victims of abuse before it’s too late.
For those in need, various organizations offer help, including shelters and counseling services. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out to local authorities or support groups for assistance.
This devastating loss has left a community shattered, but it also highlights the urgent need for collective action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
