Doja Cat recently told us about her father, Sarafina actor Dumisani Dlamini, and her future aspirations to visit South Africa.
Doja Cat, real-life name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, addresses her father, South African actor Dumisani Dlamini, and their non-existent connection.
In a recent interview with US broadcaster Ebro Darden on his Apple Music 1 show, the singer claimed that she had never met him.
When asked if she plans to visit her father’s country, the singer replied: “I still haven’t [been]. I rely on my career to just throw me out to places. I don’t find pockets of time in my life. I can fly but I don’t like flying, especially long flights like that.”
She also celebrated her dad’s talent in the interview and said he’s a good dancer: “My dad is so good at dancing; he’s a goated (Greatest Of All Time) dancer. It’s unbelievable; there’s this one video that my mom showed me.”
According to The Citizen, her father said in a 2020 interview with Metro FM that he had been hunting for his daughter for years and has been barred from meeting her.
“I have tried to search for my baby and the company that runs her entertainment has been blocking me. They know that if I could get hold of her, maybe she will disappear from the picture … I know my daughter, wherever she is, is looking for me,”
According to Hollywood Life, Dumisani Dlamini met Doja Cat’s mother, Deborah Sawyer, a Jewish and American actress and painter, while on tour with the Tony-nominated musical Sarafina, in which he played Crocodile in the 1992 film.
According to Sunday World, producer-actor Dumisani Dlamini married in September, and his renowned daughter was not present. The 59-year-old actor said that his family paid a visit to the bride’s family for the groom’s arrival.
He went on to say that it wasn’t a wedding, but rather Umembeso, in which the bride’s family received presents from the groom’s family as a symbol of respect and welcome to Umkhwenyana [the groom].
