In a poignant twist of fate, 18-year-old Zimbabwean student Lacere Masese passed away on the same day his exceptional Advanced Level exam results were released.
Lacere, who had earned top marks in Computer Science, Pure Mathematics, and Business Studies, tragically succumbed to blood cancer, on 10 January, before he could celebrate his academic achievements.
Academic Excellence Amid Tragedy
Lacere, a student at Manunure High School in the town of Kwekwe in the Midlands province in central Zimbabwe, had achieved 15 points—the highest possible score in Zimbabwe’s Advanced Level examinations, which are equivalent to final high school exams. His results placed him among the nation’s top-performing students.
A day before his death, doctors at Kwekwe General Hospital diagnosed Lacere with blood cancer. Plans were underway to transfer him to a more advanced facility in Harare when he succumbed to the illness. His passing coincided with the release of the exam results, which he never got to see.
Family and Community Mourn The Zimbabwean student
As reported by H-Metro, Lacere’s family described him as a disciplined and talented young man whose academic excellence was evident from a young age. “He was a quiet and friendly boy, both at school and at home. He loved all his relatives, and we were all equal to him,” said a grieving relative.
His school achievements had always been a source of pride for his family and community, with many lauding his hard work and humility. Lacere excelled not only in his Advanced Level exams but also in his O-Level studies, laying the foundation for his remarkable academic journey.
