The family of the late Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, a defense lawyer in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, has invited those wishing to honor his memory to send gifts to support his funeral arrangements.
Advocate Mngomezulu passed away yesterday at a hospital in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, following his notable role in defending two accused individuals in the high-profile case.
Appeal for Support
In an official statement, the Mngomezulu family expressed their openness to receiving gifts as a means of support during this challenging time. They clarified that these contributions are meant to honor the late advocate and assist his grieving family.
The family provided account details belonging to Mngomezulu’s wife, Dumisile, emphasizing the importance of using the authorized account to avoid scams. The statement read:
*”Dear Friends, please note that the below account number is the only account approved by the family for the gifts towards the late Mr. Thulani Mngomezulu.
There is no other platform/person that the family has authorized to accept gifts on their behalf other than the details shared below.
Based on the fact that we cannot all attend or be physically present for his family in these times, gestures of gifts have a way of sending a thousand words.”*
Clarifying “Gifts,” Not Donations
Sibusiso Mngomezulu, a family representative, reiterated that they are not soliciting donations but rather accepting gifts from those who wish to honor the late advocate. He stated:
*”The family is not asking for donations. They are asking for gifts from those who want to gift the late advocate. Anyone who wants to contribute is welcome to do so. To avoid falling victim to scammers, please use the account provided by the family.”*
This distinction has sparked discussions online. While some social media users pledged their support, others raised questions about the phrasing.
One user, Thabiso Maps Leroy, expressed skepticism, writing: *”Gifts ne.”* Meanwhile, others, like Mbongeni Msomi, appreciated the effort, saying: *”Thank you so much, cc Pat.
We appreciate this gesture. As I am here in Durban, it would have been difficult to attend a memorial service or funeral, so I am going to send isipheko (a contribution).”*
Remembering Advocate Mngomezulu
Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu was widely known for his role in representing two accused individuals in the contentious Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, which has drawn national attention.
His unexpected passing has left many in shock, as tributes pour in to celebrate his life and career.
The Mngomezulu family’s appeal for gifts highlights the broader challenges families face in covering the costs of funerals, even for notable public figures.
This initiative is an opportunity for those who respected the late advocate to show their support in a meaningful way.
For those wishing to contribute, the family urges adherence to the details provided in their official communication to ensure the integrity of the process.
